Graveside services for James Herndon, age 88 of Rentz, will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in Gay Cemetery. Rev. Dwayne Bedingfield and Mr. Jeffery Coleman will officiate. He passed away on August 10, 2014. Mr. Herndon was of the Baptist faith and a retired cabinet maker. He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII. He received the EAME Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal for his service. Mr. Herndon was preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Lillar White Herndon; son, Jerry Herndon; sisters, Mary Black and Nina Mae Evans; brothers, Herman Herndon, John K. Herndon, Julius Herndon and Hulbert Herndon and grandchildren, Dawson, Kaylyn and Lance Coleman. Survivors include his wife, Audie Lee Herndon of Rentz; sons, Gary Herndon (Joann) of Cadwell and Johnny Herndon (Judy) of Rock Springs Community; daughters, Kay Edge (Darrell) of East Dublin and Lynn Coleman (Michael) of Rentz; 15 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chad Herndon, Ty Herndon, Chris Herndon, Josh Bedingfield, Jerry Herndon and Kirk Register.
