Services for James Aubrey Murkerson, age 90, of Cadwell, will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Wayne McDaniel will officiate. Mr. Murkerson was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army. He retired from JP Stevens and Riverview Golf Course. He loved farming and taking care of his family. Mr. Murkerson was the son of the late Lee Frank Murkerson and the late Linnie Curry Murkerson. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, as well as daughter, Beverly M. Smith; son, Wendel Murkerson; sister, Joyce Rowland; four brothers, Clinton "Bo" Murkerson, Edward "Nooks" Murkerson, Bert Murkerson and Bill Murkerson. Mr. Murkerson passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Murkerson of Cadwell; daughter, Sheila M. Daniell of Forsyth; grandson, Lee (Allison) Smith and great-grandchildren, Lane Rogers, Madison & Alex Giddens and Parker Smith, of Rentz; granddaughter, Kelli S. (John Dale) McNames and great-grandchildren, John Connor & Emma Kayte McNames, of Oswego, IL; granddaughter, Niki S. (Shaun) Hicks and great-grandchildren, Camden Allen & Addie Lane Hicks, of Bonaire; grandson, Robby (Angela) Snellgrove and great-grandchild, Cailyn Aubrey Snellgrove, of Bonaire; brothers; Mitchell (Fleeda) Murkerson of Dexter, L.F. (Faye) Murkerson of Cadwell; sister, Breace Mullis of Cadwell and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Lee Smith, Robby Snellgrove, Shaun Hicks, Dave Fifer, Steve Daniell and Scott Warren. Honorary Pallbearers will by Jeff Brown and Don Murkerson. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home from 1:00 PM until funeral hour.
