Mrs. Slade was born August 17, 1920 in Birmingham, Alabama where she grew up and graduated from Phillips High School. She also graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a degree in Accounting. After graduation, she moved to Atlanta where she worked until meeting Oswald Lee Colter. They were married and moved to Cadwell, Georgia in 1942 where they raised their two children, Jerry and Connie.
Mrs. Slade was preceded in death by her first husband, O.L. "Bud" Colter, who died in 1970 and her second husband, Ben Turner Slade, who passed away in 1985; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Adderhold, of Decatur, AL; two brothers, Charles and Guy Adderhold of Birmingham, AL; sister, Pansy Adderhold Blackburn also of Birmingham, and her daughter, Connie Colter Belote of Dublin, GA.
She is survived by her son, Pastor Jerry Colter (Woody) of Camden, TN; son-in-law Mike Belote of Dublin, GA; five grandchildren, Michael Belote and Molly B. Gay (Evan) both of Dublin, Kimberly Belote of Valdosta, Scott Colter (Tami) of Americus, and Jason Colter (Stephanie) of Camden, TN. Mrs. Slade is also survived by 12 beautiful great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Slade loved family and lived a long beautiful life enjoying family and wonderful close friends, many of whom she cared for until their passing. She had a tremendous work ethic and worked hard all of her life in accounting and bookkeeping until her retirement. She had a great love for fishing, gardening, and Alabama football, which kept her busy in her "down" time. She was an avid Alabama football fan as her second husband, Ben, had played football with the great Bear Bryant. Mrs. Slade attended Cadwell Baptist Church in her earlier years where she was instrumental in forming the first "seniors" traveling group at the church she loved. She had many lifelong friends in the Cadwell and surrounding areas.
The family is so very grateful for Mrs. Slade's caretakers, Ethel Rozier, Betty Tarver, and close friend Lois Edwards, plus all the wonderful friends she had Woodlawn Senior Village. They are all the best people in the world and we are ever grateful to each of you.
