Services for Joan Couey Wilkes Mayo, age 69, will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Kelly Maddox will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Mayo passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2014. A native of Laurens County, Joan had been back in Laurens County approximately two years after living in Henry County for ten years and retiring from the human resources department in Henry County. She was a member of Brewton Baptist Church and loved riding horses and growing flowers. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Bryant "DB" and Mary Ann Walters Couey and husband, Daniel Lewis Mayo. Survivors include her two sons, Jim Wilkes and Mike and Lisa Wilkes, both of Dublin; sisters, Nolan and Joel Cauley and Carol and Jimmy Holton; and grandson, Dayton Wilkes. Pallbearers will be Ken Wright, Randy Graham, Sam Henderson, Tim Soles, Alfredo Mendoza and Patrick Roth.
