Obituary

Hal Joe Hill, age 74 of Dublin, died Saturday, April 27, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Durden will officiate. Joe was born in Dublin on December 17, 1938. He was the son of the late Hilton J. Hill and Dovie Harden Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patsy Hill Thomas. Joe attended Dublin High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1960. During his tour of service, he pursued studies, including land surveying, at Anchorage Community College in Alaska and at University of Maryland's World Wide Campus and Tokyo University in Japan. After returning from serving his country, he worked for a local business and continued his education. In 1962, Joe joined the U.S. Peace Corps and served until 1964 in Beni Mellal, Morocco making maps and building roads and bridges. Upon returning to Dublin, he completed his education and graduated with degrees in civil engineering and physics. In 1970, he began his civil engineering career by opening a practice in Dublin and remained self-employed for 11 years. Joe continued his career working with several development and construction companies. Pallbearers will be Randy Shumny, Bill Foster, John Strickland, Lincoln Jones, Eric Jones, and James Giannini. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pinehurst Drive Baptist Church, 402 Pinehurst Drive Dublin, GA 31021
