John Warner Jones, 81, of Dublin, passed from this earthly life on Wednesday morning, February 29, and was reunited with his beloved wife of 50 years, Martha. Mr. Jones was also preceded in death by his parents, the late Otis Warner Jones and Rosalee Wilson Jones of Commerce, Georgia, and his brother, William Jackson Jones. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Pat Jones (Robert) Beckum of Columbus, Georgia, and Linda Jones (Stan) Couey of Dublin, and four grandchildren, Jay Couey, Will Couey, Jonathan Beckum, and Bess Couey. Other family members include Mary Crooks of Rabun Gap, Georgia; Thomas Wilson and Tom Jones of Banks County, Georgia; and Clarence Lomas of Pendleton, South Carolina. Mr. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church and was retired from Union Special Sewing Machine Company. He had been an avid hunter and fisherman and taught Hunter Safety classes to many area sportsmen. He also taught one of the first mechanics' courses at the former Heart of Georgia Technical Institute and was actively involved with Helping Hands for a number of years. He graduated from Commerce High School, attended the University of Georgia, and served in the Army Reserves. The funeral service for Mr. Jones will be held on Friday, March 2, at 4:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Dublin, with Dr. Cliff Morris and Rev. Robert Beckum officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-3:30 PM at the church. A private burial will follow at Northview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rufus Bateman, Earl Beall, Gerald Beckum, Ben Cochran, Mack Fitzgerald, Joe Uliano, Grayson Watson, Lee Whitaker, and Jimmy Whitaker. Those desiring to make memorial contributions may send them to Helping Hands of Dublin-Laurens County, c/o CKT, 1312 Bellevue Ave., Dublin; or First Baptist Church, 405 Bellevue Avenue, Dublin.
