Mr. Pitts was born on April 4, 1949, in Dublin, Georgia, to the late John C. Pitts Sr. and Minnie Woodard Pitts. He was a 1967 graduate of Dublin High School, where he was a standout member of the Fighting Irish football program during the 1960s. Wearing number 55, he played offensive center and earned All-State honors, establishing himself as one of the school's notable athletes of his era. Following high school, Mr. Pitts attended ABAC, and the University of Georgia, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from the School of Business Administration in August 1971.
Following college, Mr. Pitts continued the legacy established by his father in the local automobile industry, operating Pitts Toyota from their long-standing location in Dublin. He was also a dedicated, long-time member of the Dublin Rotary Club and Pine Forest Methodist Church.
An avid golfer throughout his life, Mr. Pitts loved spending time on the course at the Dublin Country Club. Personal health and fitness remained highly important to him, a reflection of the dedication and athletic discipline he maintained since his early playing days.
Survivors include his daughter, Angie Pitts Simpkins (Jake); his son, John C. Pitts III; his grandchildren, Cierra Carroll-Pitts, Julia Katherine Biles, Ella Parker Biles, Kenslee Pitts, and John C. Pitts IV; and his great-grandchild, Nova Harrelson. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Pitts (Mary Linda); his sister, Katrina Pitts Forth; and his nephew, Chadwick E. Forth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Pitts Sr. and Minnie Woodard Pitts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Pine Forest Methodist Church, Regency Southern Care Hospice Service, or charity of choice.
