John P. Vaughn, age 92, of Laurens County, died on December 24, 2012 after a brief illness. Mr. Vaughn was a member of the Dublin High School graduating class of 1941. He spent his entire life in the New Bethel/Pine Hill community on the farm where he was born. His farming was done with mules in the nineteen thirties and forties, but he embraced and utilized modern farming tools and methods as they evolved. He was a professional farmer in the truest sense of the word, and was a mentor to many young farmers in the community who looked upon him as a second father. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Frances Brown Vaughn of Dublin; sons, Earl (Becky) Vaughn of Dublin and Danny (Judy) Vaughn of Dublin; grandsons, Gordon Moore of Dublin and Matt (Julie) Vaughn of Savannah; and great granddaughter, Elizabeth Vaughn of Savannah. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Mabel Hall Vaughn; his father, James P. Vaughn; brother, James O. Vaughn; daughter, Ellen Vaughn Moore; and granddaughter, Holli L. Vaughn. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at Northview Cemetery with Reverend Grady Mimbs officiating. Pallbearers will be: Earl Lord, Dewayne Jeffers, Earnie Davis, Dwight Leroy, Ralph Mullis, and Wilkes Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be: Danny Moore and Scott Beasley. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home of Dublin.
