Obituary

Funeral services for Josh A. Durden will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 19, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Dublin with Dr. Cliff Morris and Rev. James Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Northview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 PM Friday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Durden was preceded in death by his parents, Eula B. and Josh A. Durden, Sr.; son, David H. Durden and brother, Judson Durden. He passed away August 17, 2017 at Serenity Hospice.

He will be remembered for a life of service to his Savior, his family and his fellowman. He faithfully served the Lord at First Baptist Church as a deacon, on various committees, on mission trips and in disaster relief.

He was devoted to his family who witnessed a life well-lived. He was a faithful, loving husband and father. He and his wife Helen were a team in their ministry efforts.

As an educator and administrator for twenty-seven years he sought to make life better for those with whom he worked and served. The rotary Club has as its motto, "Service Above Self", a motto that was his very own. Mr. Duden served a term as President of Rotary and as Secretary for thirty years.

Mr. Durden is survived by his wife, Helen Hughes Durden; daughter, Lori Durden Johnson; grandchildren, Taylor Johnson, Jacob Johnson, Lindsey Durden and Melissa Durden; brother, Jimmy (Deloris) Durden, sister-in-law, Carolyn Durden; a niece and several nephews.

Pallbearers will be Stan Couey, Tony Durden, Randy Durden, Roger Folsom, Charles Johnson, Culver Jordan, and Johnny Warren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Missions Committee, First Baptist Church for those on their first-time mission journey.
