Funeral services for Mrs. June Williams Kellam will be at First United Methodist Church on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Thad Haygood, Rev. Bob Williams, and Dr. Jack Key officiating. Interment will be at Northview Cemetery immediately after the service.
Mrs. Kellam was born on January 20, 1934, and passed away on February 10, 2016. A native of Laurens County, she was the daughter of Grayce Malone Williams and Laney Carlos Williams. After spending several of her young years in Elon, North Carolina, and Los Angeles, California, she and her parents moved to Dublin, where she entered Dublin High School. A popular student, she was graduated from there and attended Georgia State College for Women, receiving her A.B. Degree in Early Childhood Education.
A second or third grade teacher for 26 years, she endeared herself to her students, whom she also loved. She spent much time working on special activities with and for them to make their days meaningful and memorable.
On June 15, 1957, she married Paul David Kellam, a multi-generational Laurens Countian, and became an Air Force wife. They returned to Dublin in 1960 and had a most happy life together until his death in November of 2000. They were blessed with a son, Dr. Paul David Kellam, Jr. and a daughter, Katherine Kellam Neal, who were blessed with loving, Christian parents.
Mrs. Kellam was an active member of First United Methodist Church serving in various capacities through the years. She was a member of Dublin Girls' Cotillion Club and the Erin Garden Club. She served as president of the Dublin Service League and of Women's Study Club, of which she became an Honorary Member. Her work with the American Cancer Society earned her a Special Citation. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, reading, gardening, playing bridge, and needlepoint.
Mrs. Kellam was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son-in-law, Alex Neal, brother-in-law Thomas Kellam, sister-in-law Kitty Kellam, sister-in-law Betty Eve Kellam Grimes, brother-in-law Irwin Grimes, brother-in-law Wendell Horne, brother-in-law Hamilton Kellam.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine, son David and his wife Cheri and their sons, Paul Kellam and William Kellam, all of Dublin, sister-in-law Wilhelmina (Mimi) Kellam Horne of Cordele, sister-in-law Joyce Maddox Kellam of Atlanta as well as several nieces and nephews.
She also leaves to cherish her memory several special helpers, Betty Stanley, Adell Coleman, Anita Blue, and Jacquelyn Thompkins.
Pallbearers will be Ben Cochran, Krather Nelson, Peter Raymer, Tom Grimes, Wendell Horne, and Monte Horne.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Whigham, Luthell Braddy, Macon Core, Nelson Carswell, Jim Kibler, Jim Shoptaw, Leon Green, Al Lamb, Frank Hodges, Monte Kellam, and Joe Kellam.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to either First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 665, Dublin, GA 31040 or the Methodist Children's Home, 304 Pierce Ave., Macon, GA 31204.
Visitation will be held at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Thursday, February 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.Visits: 0
