Karen Sue Thigpen, passed away on October 1, 2026, in Macon, Georgia, at the age of 66.
Karen was born on July 26, 1960, in Savannah, Georgia, to Shirley Tomlinson the late Buddy Buchanon. She lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and devotion to the people she loved. A Christian by faith, Karen carried her beliefs with her in the way she treated others, always offering warmth, encouragement, and a gentle spirit to those around her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wendell Thigpen, through their marriage, she shared a special and loving bond with Sheena Newsome and her husband, Sammie; Cassie Norfleet and her husband, Derrell; and Brandy Powell and her husband, Loran. Karen was also a mother to her children, Eric White and Jody Hibbert.
She was also a beloved sister to Jean Hudson, Tina Jones, and Richard Paul. Karen treasured her family deeply and found great joy in being surrounded by those she loved. She was especially proud of her 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable happiness.
Karen was known for her loving nature, her kindness, and her creativity. She had a special gift for crafts and sewing, and she took great pleasure in making mustard seed necklaces. She prayed over the people she made them for, reflecting the compassion and faith that guided her life. Karen loved people and had a way of making others feel cared for and valued. Above all, she loved being a Granny, and that role brought her some of her greatest joy and most treasured memories.
Those who knew Karen will remember her as a woman of grace and strength, someone who gave freely of herself and made life brighter for others. Her presence was a blessing to her family and friends, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her loving heart, her creative spirit, and the deep love she shared with her family throughout her life.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 06, 2026 in the Mary Whitaker Townsend Memorial Chapel.
