Karl Heinz Schumacher, age 94, passed away on July 26, 2026, in Rentz, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and love that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Karl was born on February 8, 1932, in Ladenburg, Germany to the late Joseph and Maria Schumacher. While in Germany, he spent time as a goalie on a professional soccer team before coming to America as a young man and answering the call to serve his adopted country during the Korean War. He served honorably in the United States Army, where he was combat wounded and later honorably discharged. His military service was recognized with numerous decorations and honors, including the Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, the ROK Presidential Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Medal, the Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant, the Purple Heart, and the Silver Star. These awards reflected not only his courage in battle, but also his steadfast commitment to duty and country.

After his military service, Karl built a hardworking life and spent many years as a truck driver. He was known for his strong work ethic, his dependable nature, and the quiet dignity with which he carried himself. Later in life, he continued his service to the community as a retired Deputy with the Laurens County Sheriff's Office. In every role he held, Karl was respected for his integrity, his discipline, and his willingness to help others.

Above all else, Karl was a loving man who treasured his family deeply. After retirement, he spent the rest of his years enjoying his children and grandchildren, finding great joy in their lives and accomplishments.

In addition to his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean. He is survived by his son, Lee Schumacher and wife Teri of Amarillo, Texas; his daughters, Donna Wynn of Rentz, Georgia, and Sandy Durden and husband Gary of McRae; his grandsons, Chad Herndon (Nicole) of Rentz and Christopher Diers of Cadwell; his great-grandson, Jeremy Herndon; his nephew, Wayne Starley of Fayetteville; and several other nieces and nephews.
