Obituary

Kathryn Sawyer Willis, age 81 of Dublin, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, September 4, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Thad Haygood and Rev. Bob Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Mrs. Willis was a graduate of Dublin High School and the Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta, GA. She worked as a registered nurse at Dublin VA Medical Center and taught LPN, Nursing assistants and EMT classes. She was also co-owner of Colleen's China & Collectibles since 1989. Mrs. Willis was one of the earliest members of the Dublin-Laurens Humane Society and past president and long-term member of Green Acres Garden Club. She was also a member of Dublin First United Methodist Church, the Progressive Sunday School Class and retired member of the Dublin Service League. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.A. Sawyer and Sarah Sherman Smith Sawyer. Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Willis of Dublin; daughter, Sally (John) Willis Daniels of Dublin; son, Bert (Shirley) Willis of Dublin; brother, Al (Marie) Sawyer of St. Simons Island; granddaughters, Brooke (Blake) Carr of Dexter and Marina Daniels of Dublin; grandson, Grant Daniels of Dublin and great-granddaughter, MacClairah Carr of Dexter. Pallbearers for Mrs. Willis' service will be Dr. Bob Shuman, Dr. Charles Warnock, Larry Willis, John Daniels, Dr. Ed Fitzgerald, Charles Hendricks, Ted Jarriel, Quincy Simpson and Clinton Thomas. Honorary escorts will be members of the Progressive Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church and Green Acres Garden Club as well as past and present employees of Colleen's China & Collectibles. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Green Acres Garden Club or the Dublin-Laurens Humane Society.
