Services for Kathy Ricks, age 58, of East Dublin, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2011, in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Bracewell Cemetery. Pastor Curtis Vincent and Rev. Kelly Maddox will officiate. Mrs. Ricks died Sunday, June 19, 2011. Mrs. Ricks was born in Savannah. She was a member of the Lighthouse United Pentecostal Church and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was employed by the Laurens County Board of Education as the School Nutrition Manager and was County Nutrition President at least four times, earning the Gold Scroll from the state each time. She served as the Legislative Chair several years and as District One School Nutrition Association President twice. In 1993 – 1994, the system earned the State President's Award. In 1998, the Gold Scroll was earned. Mrs. Ricks served as Co-President with Ann Google in 2009 – 2010 and the district earned the Gold Scroll. She served as District Legislative Chair for many years along with serving in every leadership position for District One, except for Treasurer and System Level Chair. Mrs. Ricks also served the Georgia School Nutrition Association as co-chair with Dr. Janice Maddox as Certification Chair and served as Chairman of District Presidents. Mrs. Ricks worked in school nutrition for a total of twenty-six years. She worked as an assistant at all three eastside schools. She began managing East Laurens Elementary and worked for fifteen years. When the schools split, she worked as manager for East Laurens Elementary and East Laurens Primary for six years. Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her brother, Kenny Fulford. Survivors include her husband, Allen Ricks; children, Ronda Hightower, Dennis Johnson, Ricky Ricks, and Jamie Ricks; grandchildren, Jody Hightower, Heather Hightower, Ashlei Johnson, Caleb Hightower, Katelyn Ricks, ReAnnah Ricks, Gracie Ricks, Brannen Ricks; parents, Johnny Fulford and Wynema Fulford; sisters, Linda Pope, Judy Tyson, and Connie Gillis; and brother-in-law, Joel Gillis. Don Tyson, Sammy Ricks, Timmy Ricks, Chris Gillis, Stevie Frost, and Ashley Smith will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Kathy's memory be sent to GA School Nutrition Foundation, 2372 Main Street, Tucker, GA 30084. All funds that are marked In Memory of Kathy Ricks will be designated for School Level Personnel Scholarships. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
