Obituary

Kimsey McClure "Mac" Fowler, 80, passed away in Dublin, Friday, January 6, 2012 after a long decline from Parkinson's disease and cancer. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:15 PM on Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Dublin, followed by a service at 2:30 PM with Dr. Cliff Morris officiating. Burial will be in Dublin Memorial Gardens after the service with Townsend Brothers Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Pall bearers will be Jim Shoptaw, Preston Johnson, Julian Reynolds, Kimsey Fowler, Jr., Gary Fowler, Mitch Fowler, Russ Mitchell, and Paul Mitchell. Honorary pall bearers will be Tom Stewart, Milo Smith, Jim Richardson and Gene Mullis. Mr. Fowler was born near Oglethorpe, Macon County, GA on December 14, 1931, the oldest son and second child of Clovis Jackson Fowler and Leah Ladelle Gresham, both deceased. At Hawkinsville High School he played basketball and then football when a new team was formed. After graduating in 1949 he worked at the Ford dealership for two years before joining the US Air Force. He was stationed on Okinawa for two years during the Korean War and subsequently in West Palm Beach, FL, being promoted to Staff Sergeant in the Air Police before leaving the military. Upon returning to Hawkinsville he worked in his father's grocery business prior to his 30-year career with Georgia Power Company in Hawkinsville, Brunswick and Dublin. He was a Kiwanian for over 20 years holding several positions including Lt. Gov. in 1983. He was presented the Hixon Award by the Kiwanis Club of Dublin. A long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Dublin, he was in the Townsend-Smith Sunday School Class. Mr. Fowler was an avid golfer and loved sports, genealogy, gardening, bird watching and gospel music. His siblings are all living: a brother Jack Fowler of Hawkinsville, and three sisters, Bernice Southerland of Hawkinsville, Bonnie Turpin of Deltona, FL, and Sadye Cauley of Brunswick. He is also survived by a son Kimsey M. Fowler, Jr. of Seattle, WA, a daughter Diane Delores Fowler Mitchell, her husband Russ and their children Michelle and Paul of Dublin, and a son Gary Hillier Fowler of Milledgeville, his wife Julianne Harley Fowler and their children Macey and Mitch. The family expresses their deepest appreciation to his dedicated care-giver Amy Griffith of Rockledge. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
