Obituary

Services for Latha Pope Lord, age 97, of Dexter, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Buckhorn United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Tim Paulk and Rev. Larry Waldrep will officiate. Mrs. Lord died Saturday, January 1, 2011. Mrs. Lord was a lifelong resident of Laurens County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Pope and Rilla B. Pope; husband, Julian Lord; sisters, Trella Pope, Essie Collins, Anna Renfro, and Johnnie Pope; and brother, Dan Pope. Mrs. Lord was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed her family, church family, friends, and fishing. After raising her family, she returned to work in the family businesses, Pope and Lord and Eastman Dairy Queen until she retired at age 82. She was an active member of Buckhorn United Methodist Church, serving on various committees during her lifetime. She was a charter member of the Buckhorn United Methodist Women and always active in community events such as Young at Heart, Possum Hollow, and Mission Bar B-Qs. She led by example. Survivors include her children, Roger (Sharon) Lord, T. J. Lord, Sandra (Fred) Alexander, Cynthia (Randel) Bryan, and Philip (Renny) Lord; eleven grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. Darren Bryan, Spencer Bryan, Wayne Lord, Britt Lord, Jerry Hatcher, Mark Rowland, Chad Sapp, and Josh Bryan will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 27, Dublin, GA 31040 and to Buckhorn United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home Monday, January 3, 2011, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
