Services for Lester E. Farr Sr., age 101 of Cadwell will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Rentz Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rentz Cemetery. Rev. Tim Paulk, Rev. Tom Vann, and Rev. Darren Talley will officiate. He passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 Mr. Farr was a member of Cadwell-Rentz United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Alabama and a graduate of Berry College. He completed graduate work at the University of Georgia. He began his teaching and coaching career at Sumner High School in 1938 and moved to Laurens County in 1947. He served as principal and coach at Cedar Grove High school. After school consolidation he served as coach and teacher at Laurens High, Southwest Laurens High, and West Laurens High Schools. During his 36 year teaching and coaching career, he taught many classes in history, math, bookkeeping, and coached boys and girls basketball, baseball, track and golf. He was named coach of the year by fellow coaches and honored as one of Georgia's winningest coaches by Atlanta Tip Off Club. Mr. Farr is remembered for many winning teams, including the 1951 Girls Basketball State championship and 1971 Girls Basketball State Runner-up. Mr. Farr was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Allene Goggans Farr, parents, Love Harrison Farr and Eddie Murray Farr; brothers, John, Joe, Jim, Clyde, and Robert Farr; sisters, Clara Mae Temple, and Mattie Lee Taylor. Survivors include his daughter, Regina Daniel (Bennie) of Rentz, sons, L.E. Farr Jr. (Gail) of Cadwell and Danny Farr (Becca) of Marietta, grandchildren, Darla Moughon (Reid) of Macon, Davey Daniel (Brooke) of Signal Mountain, TN, Brian Farr of Cadwell, April Talley (Darren) of Rentz , Allison Thomas (Kevin) of Atlanta, and Jillian Farr of Greenwood Village, CO, great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Caroline Daniel and Jayden and Daniel Moughon, Davey Daniel, Reid Moughon, Brian Farr, Kevin Thomas, Mark Goggans, and David Goggans will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be former students and players. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The family headquarters will be the home of Bennie and Regina Daniel.
