Obituary

Services for Mrs. Lou Ann White Fordham, 70, will be held Thursday, August 15, 2013 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home at 3:00PM with burial to follow at Snowhill Baptist Church in Cadwell. Rev. Jerry Weathersby and Rev. Dewayne Dunn will officiate. Mrs. Fordham died peacefully Monday evening at her home with her family gathered around. Mrs. Fordham was a lifelong resident of Laurens County. She grew up in the community of Cedar Grove. She was an owner of Lou Ann's Restaurant and the former owner of JoJo's Biscuits and Burgers. Mrs. Fordham began her career in the food service business in 1965 as an employee of Burger Chef and served as the manager of that store until the franchise sold to Hardee's in the early 80s. Fordham was then assigned to manage and open the new Hardee's location in East Dublin, which she did and worked without ever missing a day while going through chemo treatment for breast cancer. The Hardee's manager's position required her to work on Sundays and miss attending church. Fordham chose to leave that job because she did not want to miss church. She was blessed for that decision by acquiring the old Burger Chef location where she then opened JoJo's restaurant in 1985. JoJo's became known around the state for its big made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits. The restaurant name was changed to Lou Ann's in April 2012 by her daughters to honor her when health problems took Fordham out of work. Fordham quietly gave as a generous supporter of many local charities and non-profit organizations as well as various churches. She spent many years as a Sunday School teacher at Union Springs Baptist. She was a devoted Christian who loved Jesus and tried to be a Godly example to all those she knew. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Hilbert W. Fordham; two daughters, Stephanie (Jimmy) Miller and Karen (Chris) Smith. Grandchildren are: Kristen Smith, Kristen's fiancé Derek Jackson; Erik (Toni) Smith, Jordan (Ashley) Smith, Hunter (Leigh Anne) Bennett, Zane (Megan) Bennett, Taylor James Miller, Will (Erin) Miller, Nick (Megan) Miller and Anitra Miller. Her great grandchildren are: Fisher Smith, Finley Elizabeth Smith, Sadie Toledo, Trinity Mendez, Kailey Sapp, Jordan Miller, Tess Miller, Avery Miller and Ansley Miller. She is also survived by her mother, Phrocine Yeomans White; her brothers, Cleveland (Georgia) White of Douglas, Mike (April) White; sisters, Lorene (Leon) White and Paula (Tom) Boknevitz. Brothers and sisters in law: James (Fay) Fordham, Wyndell Fordham, Nora Lee (Bob) White, Bobby Fordham and many nieces and nephews. Fordham was predeceased by her father, Berry White. Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Will Miller, Erik Smith, Hunter Bennett, Jordan Smith, Zane Bennett, Taylor Miller and Derek Jackson. Honorary pall bearers will be the employees of Lou Ann's and any past employees that Fordham worked with at either Lou Ann's, JoJo's, Hardees or Burger Chef who wish to do so. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday night from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. The family may be contacted at the Miller Home at 1248 David Mullis Road, Rentz.
