Obituary

Luther Lewis Spires, age 94, of Pine Hill, Alabama passed away September 24, 2026 at his home. He was born July 28, 1932 in Dublin, Georgia to Lewis Ashley and Mary Turner Spires.

Luther shared 73 happy years of marriage with Evelyn and was a devoted member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. Affectionately known as "Mr. Luther" or "Uncle Luther," he was loved and respected by many and was always willing to lend a hand. He loved feeding family and friends, giving away gallons of his beloved homemade barbecue sauce over the years. The family's Fourth of July gatherings at the lake were something he especially looked forward to.

Independent and determined, Luther built a successful business in the logging industry. He had an extensive knowledge of mechanics and could build or repair anything he set his mind to. That ability was evident in the antique cars he enjoyed restoring, with several completed over the years. He took pride in his independence and persevered through life's challenges with strength and resolve. Even at 94, his mind remained exceptionally sharp, and his remarkable memory continued to amaze those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by the many friends and loved ones whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Spires; nieces and nephews, Tony Spires, Sian Childers Rogers, Bryan Childers, Brad Childers, Keith Simpson, Ashley Spires Churm, Conner Childers, Cullen Childers, Ford Childers, Everett Childers, and Jerri Leigh Childers; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Pine Hill Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time with Dr. Chris Kynard and Rev. Steve Green officiating. Graveside services will be held at Dublin Memorial Gardens, 2986 US 80, Dublin, GA 31021, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 1:00 pm.

Active pallbearers will be Craig Whitfield, JD Kelly, Robert Green, Kevin Avritt, Leon Dobbs, Stan Bradford, and Paul Sheffield.
