Memorial services for Mrs. Marcia Spivey Cherry will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in East Dublin, GA, on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 11:00AM with Rev. Matt Haywood, Rev. Dewayne Bedingfield, and Rev. Tommy Pulliam officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until service hour on Wednesday at the church. Special guests at the Memorial Service will be members of the Nan Linder Sunday School Class of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mrs. Cherry was born in Soperton, GA on July 6, 1937 and passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 after a long illness. She was the daughter of Leon and Christine Spivey. Marcia was a 1955 Honor Graduate of Dublin High School. She and her husband, a government employee, moved several times living in six different states. Marcia held several jobs as a secretary. Her last job was executive secretary to the plant manager of Reynolds Metal Company, in Salisbury, NC, where they resided for seventeen years. On October 5, 1956 she married Joe Cherry and they lived in Dublin until 1963. They returned to Dublin in 1993 and lived in the Thundering Springs Community. Marcia was an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, serving in various capacities through the years. She especially loved the young children. Joe and Marcia were blessed with two children, a son, Jeffrey S. Cherry and daughter, Christie C. Brooke. Jeffrey died in 2004 and Christie lives in East Dublin. In addition to her parents and son, Mrs. Cherry was preceded in death by brother, Howard Spivey, and sisters, Elaine Williams, and Betty Gilbert. She is survived by her husband, Joe Cherry; daughter, Christie Brooke; grandchildren, Joseph R. Brooke (Dawn), of Winthrop, Maine, Kayla C. Brown (Tyler), of Salisbury, NC, and Terri Brooke, of Savannah; daughter-in-law, Robin Cherry, of Salisbury, NC; aunt, Nell Garrett, of Soperton; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Patricia C. Foskey (Donald), of Dublin and Becky Cherry, of Las Vegas, NV; brother-in-law, Wendell Cherry, of Dublin; five step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church Children's Fund, 335 Bethlehem Church Rd., East Dublin, GA 31027.
