Services for Mardre Ann Davis Cox, age 87 of Dublin, will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 20, 2012, in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Northview Cemetery. Rev. John Cox will officiate. Mrs. Cox was a native of Thomasville, GA. She was the daughter of the late J. Claud Davis, Jr. and the late Lester Chastain Davis. She graduated from Thomasville High School and the University of Georgia. Mrs. Cox worked with the UGA home extension program and founded and taught at Mardre's Garten from 1955 until 1981. She was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church, served as a trustee of Georgia Baptist Children's and Family Ministries, was active in the Dublin-Laurens Historical Society and Friday Morning Breakfast Club and many other community activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lee Cox, Jr. son, Greg Cox, brothers, Jasper C. Davis III, Forbes Davis, Rudolph Davis, sister, Helen Davis Tatum, brother in law, C. A. Tatum and sister in law, Anne Davis. Mrs. Cox passed away Tuesday, January 17 in Thomaston. Survivors include her son, John H. (Susan) Cox of Thomaston, daughter in law, Sandy Cox of Bakersfield, CA, grandchildren, Shanna Cox (Chris Young), Shea (April) Cox, Alison (Andrew) Barrett, Blair Cox, Courtney Cox, sisters in law, Marthalene Davis of Thomasville, Nan Davis of Sarasota, FL, great grandchildren, Anna Barrett, Camden Cox, Gregory Young. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Friday morning from 10:00AM until 11:00AM.
