Obituary

Services for Marion Henry Silas, 88, of Dublin, will be held at 2:00PM, on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Dublin Church of God. Burial will follow at Bluewater Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. William Pope and Rev. Steve Hardeman will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, March 3, 2017 at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Hubert "Sunny" Drum, Lige "Boots" Corbett, Joey Williams, Kyle Williams, Al Starley, Larry Golden, and Mike Hood will serve as pallbearers. Bobby Willis, Ray Curry, Billy Roberts, Larry Curry, Freddie Churchwell, and the men of the Dublin Church of God will serve as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Silas was a lifelong resident of Laurens County. He was the son of the late Adrain Andrew Silas and the late Clara Mae Knight Silas. He was a member of the Dublin Church of God. Mr. Silas served his country in World War II and the Korean War. He spent 23 months overseas with most of the time in the Military Government. While in active duty, he was presented the World War II Victory Medal, the Korean Occupation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 2000, the Korean Government awarded him with a Medal of Appreciation, which was presented by U.S. Rep. Jim Marshall and State Rep. Kenneth Birdsong. Marion graduated from Cadwell High School, attended Brewton Parker College and graduated from The National School of Business with a degree in accounting. He retired from the Federal Government after 25 years of service. He was owner and operator of Silas Union 76 and Silas Shop and Small Repairs in Dublin. Mr. Silas was a member of the Masons Laurens Lodge 75 Dublin, F&AM. He was also a member of the Al Sihah Shiners Temple of Macon, GA, and other Mason bodies. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the DAV. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Silas, brother, Hubert Silas, and nephew, Greg Silas. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-eight years, Juanita Colter Silas, several nieces and nephews, including Patricia Hood (Mike), of Rentz, and Hilda Hummel (Buster), Buck Silas, Vicki Williams, and Jane Wynn, all of Dublin, and sister-in-law, Ouida Colter, of Dublin. Although he had no grandchildren of his own, he was a cherished grandfather to Paul Churchwell of Dublin and Sheila See of Milledgeville. He was also a devoted "MePa" to Kasey, Tiffany, and Courtney Churchwell, and Maleah Gordon, all of Dublin and Austin, Garyson and Holden See of Milledgeville.
