Services for Mary Lauvernia Screws, 81, will be at 11:00 AM Monday, October 18, 2010, in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Glenwood City Cemetery. Rev. Glenn Russell will officiate. Born and raised in rural Laurens County, Mrs. Screws attended school at Lowery. After she was married, she moved with her husband to Glenwood where she raised her family. After the death of her husband, she supported her family working at Oxford Manufacturing Co. in Alamo and remained there until her retirement. She relocated back to Laurens Co. when her mother became ill and has resided in Dublin since that time. She was preceded in death by her parents, the late Veston Alligood and the late Nellie R. Alligood Jenkins, her husband, Robert Clarence Screws and one daughter, Judy Gail Screws. Mrs. Screws passed away on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Serenity Place following an extended illness. She is survived by four sons; Jerry L. (Barbara) Screws of Dublin, Virgil A. Screws of DeLand, FL, Robert C. (Julie) Screws of Lyons and Ronnie V. (Earlene) Screws of Glenwood, three daughters; Kay S. (Buddy) Avery of Dublin, Sandra S. (Jim) Burroughs of Oswego, NY, and Mabre S. (Mickey) Johnson of Dublin, one brother McKinley (Lousie) Alligood of Waco, TX, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00pm at the funeral home. They may also be contacted at 309 Crestview Drive, Dublin, GA.
