Mavis Hodges Williams, 91, died at home on November 22, 2014. Mrs. Williams was born on November 20, 1923 in Oconee, GA to Reese and Ruth Hodges. She is survived by her husband, Carl S Williams, and her children: Bruce Williams (Cathy) of Shellman Bluff, GA and Jan Jones of Winston-Salem, NC; her grandchildren, Patrick Williams (Laura) of Manheim, PA and Mary Ruth Kester (Robert) of Raleigh, NC; her great grandchildren, Seth Embley, Evie Williams, and Maya Williams of Manheim, PA and Nora Rose Kester of Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by her son, John Williams, her son-in-law, Burton Jones, and her grandson, Trey Jones. Mrs. Williams was involved in several community organizations. She was a member of the John Laurens Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as Regent from 1992 – 1994 as well as serving on various committees. She especially enjoyed serving on the DAR Good Citizen Committee which annually awards a deserving high school student the DAR Good Citizen Award. In 1987, Mrs. Williams was a member of the Sunday School class that initiated the process of establishing Hospice of Laurens County and she was one of the original patient caregivers. She was recognized in 2002 as the Outstanding Senior Citizen for the St. Patrick's Day Festival. Mrs. Williams was a member of Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was very active and served in various leadership positions. She also served on several committees for the Savannah Presbytery. For her outstanding service, she was awarded a life membership in Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Williams enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing bridge, and was a loyal supporter of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 from 9:30AM until 11:00AM at Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM at the church with burial to follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Patrick Williams, Robert Kester, Chris Hodges, Alan Parker, Stan Stanley, Reese Stanley, Jeff Kohrmann, Cliff Williams, and Randy Hodges. Honorary pallbearers are her caregivers from Companion Care Senior Services and the Elders of Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank the congregation of Henry Memorial Presbyterian Church for the love and support provided through the years and the staff of Medical Center and Fairview Park Hospital and Hospice of Laurens County for the care and personal attention Mrs. Williams received.
