Services for Melissa Grant Rice, 72, will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at Pine Forest United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dr. Joel Dent and Rev. Steve Patton will officiate. Mrs. Rice was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church, Lawrence-Smalley Sunday School Class and the Adult Chancel Choir. She had worked at Williamson Bakery and Cake Art as a cake decorator. She enjoyed crafts, baking, making quilts, sewing, and going out to eat with her good friend Jean Murphy. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mrs. Rice was born in Asheville, NC to the late Harvey S. Grant and the late Alice Fortune Grant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack A. Rice, Jr. She passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Serenity Place following an extended illness. She is survived by her children, Kathy Tapley of Dublin, GA; Brenda (Michael) Henderson of Asheville, NC; Susan (Dale) Harrell of Dublin, GA; and Jack (Kimberly) Rice, III of Wichita, KS; sister, Frances Miller of Canton NC, sisters in law; Frances Shafer and Betty (Ken) McElrath both of Asheville, NC, twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Christopher Edge, John Edge, George Durden, Forrest Marshall, Casey Dalton and Wesley Edge. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00pm at the funeral home.
