Funeral Services for Melvin L. Beasley, age 92, of Dexter will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Rev. W.L. Currie will officiate. Mr. Beasley was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and fought in WWII. He was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. and a retired farmer. Mr. Beasley is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Beasley and Susie Kinchens Beasley and brothers and sisters, Harrison Beasley, Herschel Beasley, Lamar Beasley, Florence Beasley Alligood, Cassie Mead, Beatrice Alligood, Alma Gay, Catherine Howell, and Nina Lane. Mr. Beasley died Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. Mr. Beasley is survived by his son, Bobby Beasley (Louise) of Dexter, two granddaughters, Lisa Angst of Missoula, Montana, and Sheila Martin of Dexter, one grandson Bobby Lynn Beasley of Dexter, and a sister, Hazel Spires of Lizella, GA, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Glenn Beasley, Dan Beasley, Terry Spires, Tommy Tomlinson, Tommy Butler, and Wayne Warren. Edward Colter and Bobby Coleman will serve as honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
