Obituary

Michael John Coleman, 58, of Montgomery, AL, passed away Friday, September 6, 2019 from complications encountered during a heart catheterization procedure in Montgomery, and a nine-year battle with polycystic kidney disease (PKD).  His tenacious spirit was shaken from his fragile body and gently placed into a perfect body.  A body that can now do all the things he loved to do and had not been able to do over the last few years.

Michael was born in Dublin on December 21, 1960 to the late Robert (Bobby) D. Coleman, SR and Frances (Baggett) L. Coleman.  He was a 1978 graduate of West Laurens High School, and a 1982 graduate of Georgia Southern University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation Administration.  He dedicated his adult life to working with young people in various capacities for thirty- six years in his chosen field of recreation.  He served as an athletic official with the Georgia High School Association for more than twenty years, as well as other official associations.  From 2010 to 2011, he served as President of the Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA), the highest position attainable in the GRPA.

He loved fishing, hunting, golfing, his family, his friends, his Church family, and his Lord.  Michael was a man of integrity and no matter how you knew him, you mattered deeply to him; he cherished his memories of you and the bond you shared. He let no good story go untold and the stories got a little better with each telling.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Deneise, and two brothers, Phillip (Joy) R. Coleman, of Atlanta and Robert (Cheryl) D. Coleman, JR, of Charleston, SC.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.  The funeral service and celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with interment afterwards at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Rentz. A reception will follow the graveside service in the Fellowship Hall at Mt. Zion.
