Nellie was born December 19, 1921, in Laurens County at Whipples Crossing near Dudley, Georgia, to Manning Marion Wynne and Mary Pauline Kendall Wynne.

When Nellie was three years old, her family moved to Ft. Pierce, Florida where they worked in the orange groves and ran a boarding house on the riverfront. In 1936 when Nellie was 13, her father received a WWI Veterans Military Bonus of $500.00. With the desire to move back to Georgia, he bought a Model T Ford and moved the family up the East Coast back to Dudley, Georgia where they were home.

Nellie attended Dudley School and Laurens Hill Church and was baptized in Johnson's Pond.

At the young age of 17, she met her husband James Franklin Nobles at Laurens Hill Church. After a short courtship, they chose to spend the rest of their lives together. A horse and wagon were James' only transportation so he borrowed a car and eloped with Nellie. They were married June 3, 1939, by Reverend Ben Lord in the middle of a sprouting cotton field near the preacher's home. Fifty years later, Reverend Lord celebrated with them at their 50 th wedding anniversary. James and Nellie were married fifty-four years until James' death in 1992. During their marriage, they experienced many joys and faced many challenges but persevered through their faith in God and their devotion to each other.

After living a few years in Allentown, Georgia, they rented a house near the airport in Dublin, where the soldier boys came to their house to use the phone when they flew into the airport. While living a short while there, they worked diligently side by side with their fathers to clear the land and build their home on Highway 80 where the family has lived for 72 years. Over the years, they added on to their house to meet their needs and never had a house payment.

Nellie and James worked together on their farm and they raised four children, Janice, Betty, Randy, and Karen, In addition to farming, Nellie worked at McClellans, Woolworth, and J.C. Penny, and was a grade mother for all four of her children. She was a member of the Montrose Ladies Club, better known to the grandchildren as the L.O. L. C., (The Little Old Ladies Club). She was the oldest member of Bethsaida Baptist Church where she served the Lord along with her husband who was a deacon. She was a member of the Golden Friends Sunday School Class and the Joy Club. She loved serving the Lord and she loved Bethsaida.

In her younger years, she made Communion Bread, served as church Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Director, and Nursery Worker. One of the many babies she cared for in the nursery was Steven Garner. She said it never occurred to her that one of the babies she kept and cared for in the church nursery would grow up to become a very special doctor who would take care of her and her husband. Thank you Dr. Steven Garner for the many years you took such excellent care of our Mama and Daddy.

Nellie enjoyed reading and was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. She also liked to ride the dogs on the golf cart, travel, and work in the garden. She was the best cook and loved to cook for her family. She made the most delicious potato salad, macaroni and cheese, banana pudding, and the best southern sweet iced tea and lemonade.

She loved having family reunions in her home. Family, friend, or stranger, everyone was welcome. She also enjoyed making syrup with her husband and their mule, Jenny, until 1991. The community was invited to this every fall.

Nellie loved her family dearly and welcomed her nieces and nephews visits every summer, so they, along with their own children and grandchildren, could learn the value of hard work and experience "life on the farm".

She was present for the births of all her grandchildren. Each one had their own special place in her heart. When they were little, she loved to rock them and sing about buzzards and butterflies, and Jesus Loves Me. As each one married, she presented them with a cast iron skillet and her cornbread recipe, along with advice to a Godly marriage. She also adored her great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren. Their visits were the highlight of her life.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Clark, her son, Randy Nobles, and her granddaughter, Jan Elise Clark, and five brothers: Earnest Shurling, Charles Wynne, Carswell Wynne, Billy Wynne, and Henry Wynne.

Survivors include her two daughters, Betty Scarborough (Al), of Montrose, and Karen Thomas Rogers (Gary), of Dublin, and son-in-law, O.E. Clark (Gail), of Dublin; seven grandchildren, Jill Bracewell (Michael), of Dublin, Wendy Thompson (Harry), of Macon, Trey Scarborough (Stephanie), of Dacula, Amy Jenkins (Jay), of Dublin, Brad Stevens (Heather), of Springfield, Haley Farwell (John), of Dublin, and Dusty Thomas (Carol), of McIntyre; ten great-grandchildren, Jordan Bracewell, Wynne Bracewell, Emerson Jenkins, Elise Jenkins, Brandon Stevens, Sydney Stevens, Andrew Scarborough, Ella Scarborough, Travis Stripling (Brianna), and Megan Deason; four great-great-grandchildren, Kaylin Stevens, Henry Stevens, Arianna Stripling, and Owen Stripling; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Wynne, Shirley Wynne, and Helen Nobles, and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Nellie's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Escorts will be members of the Golden Friends Sunday School Class and the Montrose Ladies Club.
