Funeral services for Norman Franklin Wilkes, age 92 of Dublin, will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, September 10, 2011 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Northview Cemetery. Rev. Harrell Rogers and Dr. C. Phil Tondee will officiate.
Mr. Wilkes was born in Oconee County, Georgia on June 1, 1919. He was the son of the late John Oscar Wilkes, Sr. and the late Ava Lou Epps. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a butcher by trade. He was retired from the United States Civil Service at Fort Gordon, Georgia. He was preceded in death by 12 siblings; two wives, Annie Ruth Hill Wilkes and Raydell Harden Bracewell Wilkes; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was an active member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church as long as health permitted.
He is survived by his daughter, Elsie (Lynn) Rogers of Dublin, GA; two grandsons, Greg (Pam) Rogers of Dublin, GA and Andy (Sheila) Rogers of Dunwoody, GA; four great-grandchildren, Ty and Camille Rogers of Dublin, GA and Jacob and Anna Grace Rogers of Dunwoody, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the men of the Redeemed & Ready Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00AM until funeral hour at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 178 Hwy 441 North, Dublin, GA 31021 or to the church of your choice.
