Obituary

Graveside services for Paul Johnson, age 82 of Dublin will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Minter Cemetery. Rev. W. L. Currie will officiate. There will be no visitation. Mr. Johnson passed away Sunday, August 16, 2015, at Serenity Hospice. Paul was a lifelong resident of Laurens County. He attended Central Drive Baptist Church, He was the son of the late Alvin Johnson and the late Bernice Warnock Johnson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Ellis Johnson, Mickey Johnson, niece Angie Johnson, and brother in law, Billy Fordham. His education includes; Welding and Joining Technology, Heart of Georgia Technical Institute, Diploma: Bookkeeping, National School of Business, Diploma: and Wilkes High School, Diploma. His work experience includes Welding Instructor at Heart of Georgia Technical Institute 1984 until retirement, P. M. Watson's Welding and Machine Shop, Shop Foreman, 1956-1984; served in the US Army, Refrigeration Mechanic, 1953- 1955; and P. M. Watson's Welding and Machine Shop, Welder, 1950-1953. He received the Heart of Georgia Technical Institute's Teacher of the Year, 1987 and 1998; Awarded Certificate as Programmer of Robotic Welder, 1995; I-CAR Certified I-CAR Welding Examination Administrator, 1995; Diploma- Welding and Joining Technology, 1991; Certificate in Pipe Welding, 1990; and Recipient Governor's Award, 1987. His hobbies include spending time with family and teaching his grandchildren to fish and enjoy nature. He was active in Community Service; designed and constructed ornamental fence for Dublin Airport; and teacher for Junior Achievement Program at local junior high school. Mr. Johnson was married to Geraldine for 61 years. He was a wonderful father and grandfather for all his children and grandchildren. Winner of 1987 Governor's Award of Excellence; twice named HGTI Teacher of her year; numerous speaking appearances at area school career days; and served as a peer mentor in facilitating graining for new "T&I instructors. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Fordham Johnson of Dublin, children, Chuck (Kim) Johnson of Dublin, , Lisa (Allan) Jenkins of Covington, Renee Johnson (Rufus Smith) of Dublin, Heather (Kirby) O'Neal of Dublin, Kyle (Hallie) Holliday of Covington, sisters, Ruth Johnson, Betty(Andy) Scarborough, sisters in law, Janice Johnson, Mabre Johnson, Nancy Fordham, Linda (Pedro) Pennington, Elaine (Harold) Ivey, Patsy Windham, grandchildren, Jake Jenkins, Logan Johnson, Anna Anthony, Brayden O'Neal, great grandchildren, Angela Holliday, Ellie Holliday, step grandchildren, Josh Brantley, Amanda Register (Kyle), step great grandchildren, Hunter Register, Abi Register, Kolton Register, server nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Drive Baptist Church or Serenity Hospice.
