Mr. Griggs was born in Phenix City, Alabama on February 23, 1926. His parents were Ocie O. and Lillian T. Griggs. Mr. Griggs attended Columbus High School in Columbus, GA and was captain of the football team that received many honors in the 1940s. He was heavily recruited by Universities throughout the nation. After graduation, he proudly served our country in World War II, receiving the Purple Heart, and returned home with the rest of our country's heroes, after which he attended Auburn University.
He was an entrepreneur as the owner of the Royal Crown Cola Company in Dublin, GA. He also served as a member of the Dublin City Council, a former member of the Dublin Rotary Club, and the Dublin Country Club. Most recently he was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Dublin. Although his accomplishments were many, his proudest was that of his family, and the friendships he made along the way. He never put himself first and found the greatest joy in serving others.
We would like to thank the staff of the VA Hospital on 17B and the VA Hospice Unit, who gave him wonderful care during his long illness. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the First Baptist Church, Dublin, GA, the American Cancer Society, or the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center at 478-277-2439.
The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home Monday, February 25, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
