Al Perry Edge passed away at Serenity Place on March 8, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Services will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Dr. Cliff Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Mr. Edge was born in Johnson County, GA on October 11, 1928. His parents were the late Arthur Harris Edge and Tillie Perry Edge. He was the youngest and last survivor of nine children. Siblings preceding him were L.D. Talmadge Edge, Lucille E. Walden, Evie Lee E. Brantley Williams, Jessie Mae E. Brantley Johnson, Millie Ree E. Davis, Doris E. Stewart Fountain, Arthur Bray Edge, and Essie Bell Edge. Mr. Edge served in the U.S. army from 1953 to 1955. After returning from serving his country, he began his career in banking, first with the Bank of Wrightsville, then moving to Perry, GA to assist in the opening of First National Bank of Perry. In 1969 he moved to Dublin and became affiliated with the Farmers & Merchants Bank, until his early retirement due to declining health. Mr. Edge was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. As an active deacon he enjoyed visiting members in nursing homes and the shut-ins. Perry's past-time was spent watching the Braves, GA Bulldogs and other sporting events. His most enjoyable time until he became unable to attend was to support the local Dublin High Fighting Irish baseball team. He had a designated seating arrangement known as "Dublin's # 1 Fan". For several years many young ball players were the recipient of a $5.00 award for a home run and if they were so lucky as to get a grand slam, the award became $10.00. From his support through the years a "Perry Edge Most Valuable Player" award was established. Mr. Edge is survived by his wife of 41 years, Winifred Tanner Edge, step-son David (Maria) Taylor, of Chattanooga, TN. special grand-son Adam David Taylor of Dublin, and two loving step-grandchildren, Slade and Santana Dickerson of Chattanooga, TN, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbears will be: Johnny Webb, Clint Thomas, Kelly Canady, Sam Beall, Tommy Brantley and Rob Garnto. The Townsend Smith Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First Baptist Church, Serenity Place or a charity of their choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Bill Moses, the caring staff of CCU, 4th & 6th floors of Fairview Park Hospital, staff at Southland Nursing Home and staff at Serenity Place for the love and care Perry received during his surgery and follow-up care.
