Obituary

Services for Robert Avery Hill, 92, of Dublin will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Dublin. Graveside services will follow in the Alamo Cemetery in Alamo, Georgia. Dr. Jack Key and Rev. Thad Haygood will officiate. He passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013. Mr. Hill was born in Wheeler County, Georgia on April 10, 1921. He was president of Wheeler County Future Farmers of America as well as the state vice president. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. Mr. Hill also served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1957 – 1958 for Wheeler County. He farmed for many years and was the owner of the stockyard in Hawkinsville, GA. Later, he worked with Farmers Home Administration before entering into Real Estate Sales and Appraisals first in Baxley, Georgia, and then in Dublin, Georgia, where he later retired. He served as the president of the Lions Club in Baxley, GA., the Altamaha Basin Board of Realtors, the Appling County Chamber of Commerce as well as a member of the Rotary Club and served as the president of the Dublin Board of Realtors. Mr. Hill was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dublin where he was an active member of his Sunday school class. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Sanders Hill; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hill and his brother, Hugh Hill of Perry, GA. He is survived by a son, Gene Hill (Lisa) of Bainbridge, GA; daughter, Jayne Johnson (Wendell) of Baxley, GA; granddaughters, Gena Hill, Robyn Rathel and Jamie Jones; six great-grandchildren; his sister, Frances Dorris (Glenn) of Marietta, GA and many nieces and nephews and his adopted family, Margaret Gay, David and Jo Ann Gay, Jennifer and Justin Veal. Pallbearers will be Brett Jones, Wayne Maddox, Bill Doris, Bob Doris, Justin Veal and Miller Massey. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 31, 2013 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin, Georgia.
