Obituary

Services for Robert Wendell Thomas, Jr. age 62 of Dublin, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ben Edwards will officiate. The family will be receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014. Prior to graduating from Dublin High School in 1969, Robert Thomas was an active member of the Drama Club, the Thespian Troup 669, men's quartet and other musical ensembles. He continued to be involved with performing groups at the University of Georgia as a member of the men's glee club and the Georgia singers. Some performances that were highlights of his early years were at Carnegie Hall and a summer of entertaining at the Crystal Pistol Palace at Six Flags Over Georgia. After working in the food service industry in the Atlanta area, Robert moved to San Francisco, California where he spent close to twenty years employed by the SF Symphony and Orchestra Hall. Upon his return to Atlanta he joined the staff at the Woodruff Arts Center. His latest move was back home to Dublin to be near his family where he was employed most recently by the Lauren's County Regional Library. Robert was a devoted son, brother, and uncle. His love of music, movies, and books is surpassed by very few. He was loved by family and friends and will be truly missed by all including his cats Pearl and Atticus. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wendell Thomas, Sr.; Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Thomas (Paternal Grandparents); Mr. & Mrs. Otha Lee Manning (Maternal Grandparents); Jason Brooks (Nephew). He is survived by his mother, Mattie M. Thomas; brothers – Danny J. Thomas (Misty), Verlyn M. Thomas (Faye), Bruce K. Thomas (Dianne); sister – Robyn Thomas Mullis; nieces and nephews – Julia Thomas, Cody Thomas, Mary Hannah Thomas, Caleb Thomas, Olivia Faith Thomas, Chilor Thomas, Brinson Thomas, Jon Paul Thomas, Camille Thomas, Eva Grace Thomas, Victory Thomas, Wendy Brooks, and Brandi Petrie. Tim Outlaw, Greg Outlaw, Tommy Jolly, Steve Carter, Al Manning, Buster Manning, Chilor Walters, and Benny Thomas will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions to be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
