Obituary

Robert Thomas "Bob" Wallace was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on December 1, 2022, after a brave and extensive battle with multiple myeloma, a particularly aggressive form of cancer. He was 60 years old.

Bob was born April 20, 1962, in Des Moines, Iowa, the sixth child of John Aaron and Norma Jean (Bollman) Wallace. The Wallace clan would eventually total nine children and each sibling, along with several spouses and children at various times came to be with Bob as the disease progressed. Before he passed away, Bob was able to express great love and appreciation for his family and the dedication they showed during his illness.

Bob often said his favorite vacations were those spent at Wallace family reunions, where up to 60 family members would be present. Bob was uncle to 19 of his siblings' children and great-uncle to 13 of their children, as well as two nieces and two nephews from his in-laws. Uncle Bob always had a hug and a smile for each and every one of them.

Bob was raised in Des Moines where he was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and was an altar server from a young age. He went to St. John's Catholic School followed by Dowling Catholic High School and later graduated from Roosevelt in 1980. Bob was active in wrestling and track in high school. After graduating, Bob lived in Iowa and Michigan before joining his parents and three younger siblings in Fresno, California.

A lover of golf, Bob found a job at Riverside Golf Course working in the pro shop and later in the maintenance shed. Working with specialized golf machinery led to his interest in engineering. He enrolled in Fresno State and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering. While working at the golf course and going to school, he still managed to squeeze in a few holes with friends.

After marrying Sharon in 1997, the couple moved to Round Lake, Illinois, for a short time then to Lincoln, Nebraska, where their children Maxwell and Allison were born. In 2003, the young family made a life in Dublin, Georgia, where Bob became a valued member of the community and developed many friendships and relationships through the church, golfing, and volunteering activities. Bob enjoyed offering his time and skills to the local community, coaching his kids' sports teams, teaching Sunday school, and leading the local robotics class. His influence and generosity of spirit were felt by many.

In 2020, Bob made a career switch to teaching as an electronics instructor in the Mechatronics Technology department at Oconee Fall Line Community College. He was a dedicated and devoted teacher, connecting with students about their projects online and by phone up until his death.

Bob's curiosity for the physical sciences was passed on to his son Max who graduated from Georgia Southern University Magna Cum Laude in Chemistry last May and is now in the material science graduate program there. Max often helped Bob with his home business designing gauges for golf equipment and the two of them would spend hours talking about their shared interests in math and science, and everything in between. They also enjoyed watching shows together, such as Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, and shared a love of classic rock and cars.

Being an avid golfer, Bob was particularly proud that he could share that love with Allison. The two of them built their relationship on and around the golf course. They spent countless hours refining each other's skills and even took a road trip across the country to settle her into her golf management internship. Their time on the links showed her that he was more than a dad, but also her coach, mentor, and best friend. Because of his encouragement, Allison plans to include golf in her career when she graduates in May from the University of Georgia.

Bob's surviving loved ones include his son Maxwell Aaron, 23, and daughter Allison Paige, 22, whom he loved dearly and fiercely; his siblings, in birth order, Jean Fritz (Paul), Karen Sicheneder (Lynn), Susan Sims (Clint), Chuck (Cathy), Ellie Martinek (Chuck), Patty Hiebert, Paul (Catherine), and Shari Nunes (Frank); his mother-in-law Adele Mitsin, mother of his former wife; his uncles John Brown and Paul Wallace (Diane); several cousins, extended family, and countless friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his aunts Mary and Genevieve Bollman, Anne (Wallace) Brown, uncle William Bollman, and his former father-in-law Pete Mitsin.
