Rosalie Garbutt went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 5, 2016. Mrs. Garbutt was born on September 12, 1918 in Dublin, GA. A service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Dublin. The family will receive friends at the Church Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the service time. Rev. Thad Haygood will officiate. There will be a private burial service following.
Mrs. Garbutt was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Garbutt, Jr.; parents Gladys S. Brigham and Ernest T. Brigham; grandson Luke Garbutt; brother Ernest T. Brigham, Jr.; sister-in-law Jo Brigham; and niece Barbara Brigham.
She is survived by her daughter Rosalie G. Campbell; sons Robert M. Garbutt III (Janette) and Charles E. Garbutt (Jane); daughter Martha Anne Medford (Tim), grandchildren Deane Donnigan, Erin Cay (Jack), Kim Dempsey (John), Wendy Rountree (Andrew), J. Charlie Garbutt, Colter Garbutt, Arthur Griffith, Rob Medford (Andrea), John Medford (Leslie), niece Van Oatts Farnsworth (John), nephew E.T. (Brig) Brigham III and 12 great grandchildren. She loved her large extended family and also leaves behind numerous cousins, step grandchildren, great step grandchildren and treasured friends.
Mrs. Garbutt graduated from high school in Dublin and attended Georgia State College for Women. She was a lifelong member of Dublin First United Methodist Church where she was a past president of the United Methodist Women and was an active leader of the children's Sunday school program.
She was a past member of the Dublin Cotillion Club and a retired member of the Dublin Service League. Most of all, we remember her for her strong faith and unquestionable love for her family and friends.
The family expresses tremendous gratitude to Dr. Jim Kirkland, Alice Johnson, Mary Graham, Bernice McLendon, Betty Kellam, Julia Simmons, Meyetta Graham, Gloria Hill, Angela Bostick, and Katherine Dunlap for their loving care that allowed her to live out her years at home.
Pallbearers will be Colter Garbutt, Rob Medford, John Medford, Jack Cay, Arthur Griffith, and Charles Johnson.
Memorial contributions may be given to Dublin First United Methodist Church, 305 West Gaines Street, Dublin, GA 31021.
