Services for Roy Shipp Black, age 88, of Dublin will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 9, 2012 in the Chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Darren Talley will officiate.
Mr. Black was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and was retired from the American General Insurance Company. He was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church and he enjoyed cooking and working in his garden. Mr. Black was an avid Atlanta Braves and Falcons fan as well as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny and Viola Etheridge Black and by his loving wife, Carlene Bradley Black. Mr. Black passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Will) Page of Helena; granddaughter, Leslie (Georges) Wheeler of Marietta; grandson, Jim (April) Page of Brunswick; great-grandchildren, Alex McKiethen, Avery Wheeler, Palmer Wheeler, Garrett Page and Gracelynn Page; sister, Louise Clemons of Unadilla; brother, Alvin Black of Warner Robins; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00PM until funeral hour. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jefferson Street Baptist Church, 201 North Jefferson St., Dublin, GA 31021.
