Obituary

Mr. Roy Calhoun, age 88 of East Dublin, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2014. He will be forever loved and remembered as "Gen Gen" by his family and by his friends as the "Bubble Gum Man". Mr. Calhoun was a member of the First Independent Methodist Church and he loved hunting, fishing, and the GA Bulldogs. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 37 years. His greatest love was his family and he will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to be loved by him. Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Maggie Joiner Calhoun; parents, Arnold and Agnes Memory Calhoun; sister, Menedith Warnock and brother, Louie Calhoun. Survivors include his sons, Jerry (Kay) Calhoun of Rentz and Ted (Ann) Calhoun of East Dublin; daughters, Melody (Danny) Soles of Stockbridge and Christy (Nicky) Henry of East Dublin; grandchildren, Todd (Wanda) Calhoun of Dublin, Dan (Brittany) Soles of Hampton, Chris Calhoun of East Dublin, Candace (Mark) Keen of Rockledge, Kylie (Josh) Stone of McDonough, Tristin (Matt) Oliver of East Dublin, Miranda (Eric) Henry of East Dublin and Sylvia Butler of Rentz; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Logan, Caroline, Colby, Lexi, Trey, Reid and Kanon and special friend Betty Jean Collins. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2014 at the First Independent Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Dublin Memorial Gardens. Pastor Phil Tondee and Pastor Paul Brown will officiate. Pallbearers will be Larry Calhoun, Gilbert Calhoun, Arnie Calhoun, Todd Calhoun, Dan Soles and Chris Calhoun. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Hospice of Laurens County.
