Shelby
Young
Jan 6, 1939 — Aug 6, 2026
Shelby Jean Morris Young passed away on Aug. 6 surrounded by loved ones in her home after a brief illness. She was 87.
Shelby was the loving wife of Edward Young, with whom she shared a joyous life of love, faith and happiness. They spent nearly 70 years together in marriage. She was born on Jan. 6, 1939 to James D. Morris and Margaret Irene Smith. After graduating from East Laurens High School she became a devoted homemaker.
Her love language was cooking. The table was never sparse and everyone who sat down got exactly what they wanted and walked away full. Though there was nothing she couldn't prepare, Shelby was famous for her biscuits that accompanied nearly every meal, and no one, even if she taught them her methods, can replicate them.
As a devoted mother and later granny, three generations have grown up under her loving care. Shelby was a faithful member of the Dublin-Norris Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Shelby was predeceased by her parents; her brother Grayson Morris; her sister-in-law Shirley Morris; and her brother-in-law Bobby Garner.
She is survived by her loving husband; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Tom Dominy, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Libby Young; her grandsons and their spouses Jordan Dominy (Jessica), Kyle Dominy (Lana), David Young (Brooke), Daniel Young and Dayne Young (Lauren); and her great-grandchildren Oliver, Henry, Trevor and Lily Dominy and Layla, Carter and Oakley Young. She is also survived by her brother Dewell Morris and sister-in-law Joyce Garner, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to thank Home Instead, especially Amanda, Fonda, Neekya (lovingly known to Shelby's family as Kyra), Haley, Michaela, Queen, Ruby, Vavonda and Austin Frost.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the graveside at Thigpen Cemetery in Rockledge, Georgia. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. at the cemetery.
