Sylvia Payne
Brown
May 31, 1939 — Sep 27, 2026
Services for Sylvia Payne Brown will be held Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Poplar Springs North Baptist Church in Dublin, Georgia. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service to follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Brown passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Mrs. Brown was a long-time resident of Dublin and devoted much of her life to her family, her faith, and serving others. She worked for Family and Children's Services in Laurens County for many years.
Sylvia was married to the late Joe Brown, and together they were devoted parents to their son, Scott. Scott was born with muscular dystrophy, and Sylvia and Joe dedicated themselves to helping him pursue his dreams and live a full and accomplished life.
When Scott attended the University of Georgia School of Law, Sylvia and Joe moved to Athens, Georgia, so they could be near him and support him through law school. While living in Athens, Sylvia continued her career with Family and Children's Services in Monroe.
One of Sylvia and Joe's proudest moments was seeing Scott accomplish his goal of graduating from law school. Following Scott's passing, Sylvia and Joe returned to Dublin, where Sylvia later retired.
Sylvia was a woman of strong faith and was active in her church. Music was also a very important part of her life. A remarkably talented pianist and musician, she loved playing the piano and sharing her gift with others. Her music, faith, kindness, and devotion to those she loved were an important part of who she was and will be fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her cousins, Lana Malone Allgood, Jim Malone, Connie Malone Taylor, Dennis Malone, Debbie Malone Quave, and Mickey Malone, along with other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Brown; her son, Scott Brown; her parents, T.C. Payne and Iverline Dominy Payne; her brother, Burnsie Payne; and her sister-in-law, Brenda Payne.
Pallbearers will be Grant Allgood, Eric Vaughan, Danny Womack, Eddie Bozeman, Doug Payne, Wesley Weathington. Keith Bingham, and Mick Malone.
