Obituary

Thomas "Tom" Guy Simmons, Sr., age 61 of Dublin, passed away on January 2, 2015. Mr. Simmons was a member of the First Independent Methodist Church. He was a retired Physical Therapist Assistant. One of his most memorable life moments was being chosen to serve as a baseball trainer for the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta. He was an avid Braves fan and enjoyed watching football and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Thelma Swymer Simmons. Survivors include his wife, Carole Gibson Simmons of Dublin; daughter, Erica (Whitney) Alligood of Dublin; son, T.G. (Stephani) Simmons of Dublin; sister, Darlene (John) Watson of Dublin; step-son, Jim Goins of Atlanta; grandson, Sims Alligood of Dublin; granddaughters, Sadie Alligood and Chandler Simmons both of Dublin; aunt, Marion Slover of Dublin; nephew Steve (Teresa) Drew of Dublin; nieces, Vicki (Keaven) Williamson of Dublin, Katherine (Ty) Matthews of Macon and Jan (Doug) Lands of Macon and sister-in-law, Julia Shores of Macon. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, January 5, 2015 at the First Independent Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Rentz Cemetery. Pastor Paul Brown will officiate. Pallbearers will be Steve Drew, Don Wages, Greg Harden, Jerry Warren, Brian Mallette, Hugh Sears Doug Metts, and Joey Williams. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Laurens County TLC CASA, P.O. Box 16322, Dublin, GA 31040 or to the Laurens County Humane Society, 618 Firetower Rd., Dublin, GA 31021.
