Services for Tommie Ray Williams, age 86, of Dublin, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 1, 2015 in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Larry Rowland, Rev. Emory Freeman, and Rev. Henry Dixon will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Mr. Williams died Tuesday, April 28, 2015. During his early years, Mr. Williams was a sharecropper, who lived and worked on several farms. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist church, but attended Beulah Springs Congregational Holiness Church. Mr. Williams enjoyed singing and visiting nursing homes with ministry. He was hardworking, not stopping work until he was 80 years old. Mr. Williams loved children and was a devoted husband to his wife and first wife, as well as devoted father and grandfather. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Rosa Upshaw Williams; wife, Maudie Williams; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Ernestine Williams; and brother-in-law, Skeet Dominy. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Sawyer Williams, of Dublin; children, Barbara McCary, of Dublin, Linda S. Barber, of Cadwell, Kathy Johnson, of Wrightsville; sisters, Jo (James Nobles) Dominy, of Irwinton, Jean (Melvin) Scarborough, of Centerville; brother, Royce (Liz) Williams, of Byron; sister-in-law, Mattie Williams, of Dublin; step-children, Margie (Leon) Brooks, of Dublin, Robbie (Lisa) Sawyer, of Macon; grandchildren, Sherry (Donnie) Harriott, of Eastman, Terry David McCary, of Macon, Michelle (Chad) Townsend, of Rentz, Jonathan (Ashley) Barber, of Minter, Timothy (Skye) Garnto, Jessica E. Johnson, both of Wrightsville, Rhonda (Michael) Lee, of East Dublin, Joni (Kevin) Spires, Miranda (Cody) Woodard, both of Dublin, Jessica Sawyer, Tyler Sawyer, both of Macon; several great- grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews; and special friend of the family, Bonnie Payne, of Dublin. Ty Lee, Isaiah Lee, Blake Gaultney, Cole Gaultney, Shane Williams, and Jonathan Barber will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Oconee Baptist Church and Gene Williams.
