Obituary

Remembering- Violet Rulli Simmons, age 93, was laid to rest in beautiful Memorial Gardens in Dublin, GA on October 6, 2015. Violet was born in New Alexandria, PA, on December 2, 1922. Her family moved to Greensburg, PA, where she graduated from high school. Violet married her longtime friend, Joseph Simmons, and soon became his helpmate through his studies at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Upon graduation, they settled in Wilmington, DE, where Joseph began his teaching career and Violet became employed as an auditor with DePont Corporation. When Joseph retired from teaching, they settled in Fort Walton Beach, FL, until Joseph's death. Violet then moved to Dublin to be close to family and soon renewed her interest in the Needle Arts, having learned, along with her sisters, the basics in childhood from their mother, who was never without needle and thread at her leisure. As Violet advanced in the Needle Arts, she became interested in design and soon began designing accent pillows, chair seat upholstery, and wall hangings. The collection of work is now enjoyed by her family. Violet was a member of Pine Forest Methodist Church and remembered attending Sunday School class there. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Simmons, parents, Anna and Liberato Rulli, and brother-in-law, Jack Riley. Survivors include brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Nell Rulli, niece, Pam Rulli, all of Dublin, sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Jim Mansfield, of Greensburg, PA, sister, Betty Riley, of Parkville, MD, and a number of nieces and nephews whom she loved and wanted to know of their welfare and activities. .
