Welton Hugh Williamson, age 86, of Dublin, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Williamson was a graduate of Cedar Grove High school and a Veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, and former member of Jefferson Street Baptist, and Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. He served his church faithfully in many capacities over the years which included being a leader of the Royal Ambassadors, a volunteer with ALANON, and as a youth and adult Sunday School teacher. Mr. Williamson had a proficient memory and often enjoyed sharing history and memories of relatives and friends from the past with his family. Hugh enjoyed watching birds and knew their calls. He also enjoyed gardening and especially anything that bloomed. He always made sure his family and friends knew that they were loved. After retirement from the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, Hugh enjoyed working at Freeman's Lawn and Garden and spending time with his three grandchildren, and a recent great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillery and Oma Taylor Williamson.
Survivors include his wife, Doris A. Williamson, of Dublin; daughters, Dorthea W. Dow (Dudley), of Brundidge, AL, and Susan W. Daughtry (Mike), of Dublin; grandsons, Josh Daughtry, US Army Stationed in Korea, Jon Daughtry (Summer), of Dublin, and Chris Daughtry (Ally), of Dublin; great-granddaughter, Avalee Daughtry, of Dublin; and brother, Jimmy H. Williamson, of Dublin.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Danny Duggar, Steve Freeman, and Jeffrey Alligood will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Fordham, Larry Drew, Harry Graham, Steven Alligood, Ricky Alligood, Perry Williamson, Melton Tyson, Jerry Hall, Franz Bruckmair, Mike Crowder, and Ray Beck.
Flowers accepted, or donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church or to a charity of choice. Townsend Brothers Funeral Home and Staff respectfully ask all in attendance to follow social distancing guidelines .
