Obituary

Services will be held for Willa Jean Harrington Young on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at 2:00PM at the Cedar Grove UMC with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Andy Brownley, Rev. Nick Hazleton and Rev. Marc Foster will officiate. Mrs. Young went to be with her Lord on March 16, 2014, joining Paul, her husband of 60 years, who passed away 6 months ago. Jean was born on June 15, 1926, in the Cedar Grove Community. She graduated from Cedar Grove High School and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, returning to teach at Cedar Grove until it's closing in 1970. She then taught at Cadwell Elementary and finished her career at Southwest Laurens Elementary in 1974. In 1977 she began the next and most enjoyable phase of her life as a sitter to her grandchildren. She soon became known as Mama Jean, not only to her three grandchildren but to all their friends and family. Mrs. Young enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking, reading and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a faithful, lifelong member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher and Church Historian, among her many positions. She cherished the strong loving bond she shared through the years with her church family. Mrs. Young is predeceased by her parents, Sophie Clark and J. P. Harrington, Sr., and sister, Margie H. Moulder. She is survived by her daughters, Paula Jean (Wayne) Dixon, Melanie Browning and Suzanne Young, of Cedar Grove, grandchildren, Ryan (Cari) Dixon, Dublin, Regan (Brett) Diamon, Valdosta and Caleb (Heather) Browning, Dublin, great-grandchildren, Darci and Presley Dixon and Evan and Alyssa Diamon, brothers, J.P. (Pat) Harrington, Jr., Duluth and Wayne Dominy, Sandy Springs, a brother-in-law, Wilton Moulder, Peachtree City and several nieces and nephews, Pallbearers will be Caleb Browning, Arlyn Moulder, Jim Harrington, Mark Harrington, Ron Harrington, Hugh Kight, Kenneth Kight and Robbie Mitchell. Honorary escorts will include Mike Smith, Alan Gay, and the men of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cedar Grove UMC, c/o Rebecca Moore 2941 Chic Inn Road, Alamo, GA 30411. The family will be at the home of Wayne and Paula Jean Dixon, 2874 GA Hwy 46, Dublin, GA.
