Services for William Carl Gettys, Jr. , age 80 of Dublin, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 8, 2014 in the chapel of Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Northview Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Hutto will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM. Mr. Gettys died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Fairview Park Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Gettys, son of the late William Carl Gettys, Sr. and the late Louise Williams Gettys, was a graduate of Dublin High School, and attended GA Tech as well as University of Georgia. He returned to Laurens County to work in his family business, Dudley Lumber Company. He also worked with Cochran Brothers Wholesale. After twenty-five years of service, he retired from the Georgia Department of Labor. Mr. Gettys was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed home gardening and bird watching. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Gwen Barker Gettys; children, William Carl (Debbie) Gettys, III, John (Tonya) Gettys, Katie (Andy) Cullens, Marshall Gettys; grandchildren, Brooke Gettys, Abbie Gettys, J. B. Gettys, Blake Gettys, Grady Cullens, Nathan Cullens, all of Dublin; cousins, great nieces, great nephews; and special friends, Kellie Brown, Joy Rathheim, Dr. Robert Kennedy, and Brandon Brown. Grady Cullens, Nathan Cullens, J. B. Gettys, Blake Gettys, Dr. Robert Kennedy, and Steve Buckins will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marie Baptist Church Youth Fund, 589 Perry Dairy Road, Dublin, GA 31021, or charity of choice.
