Adonis "Don" Gray Obituary

Adonis (Don) Lyle Gray, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Addington Place Dublin.

He was born in Caledonia, Michigan, September 7, 1928. Don was the son of Adonis Lyle Gray Sr. and Mary Bishop Gray. His father worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and his job required him to work in northern states during summer months and southern states during winter. Don's father died as a result of an automobile accident in Alabama when Don was 5 years old.

Don graduated from Dublin High School in 1946. He later graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1955. He served in the Army and was stationed in Japan after World War II. He lived in Arlington, Virginia for many years and worked for Naval Intelligence. He and his second wife, Anne moved Dublin in the late 1990's to be close to his mother. After his mother passed away, they moved back to Arlington, VA. Don's great grandmother, and great, great-grandmother were Charter members of Dublin First Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his parents; step-father; uncle, Wendell A. Gray; his first wife, Georgia Scoggins Gray; his second wife, Anne Salley Gray, and his sister, Ariel Douglas Gray.

He is survived by cousins, Kathy Bishop Sharpe, Dublin; Millie Bishop Fairfield, Hawkinsville; Lina Bowen Jones, Hawkinsville; Richard Bowen, Statesboro; Tom Sharpe, Acworth; Frank Sharpe, Ailey; Bruce Deal, Wrightsville; Gene Deal, Athens; and a number of other cousins.

Many thanks to two close friends, Mardee Wimmer, Arlington, VA; and Dan Yeakel, Falls Church, VA.  Also, thanks to Brandon Thomas and his staff at Addington Place Dublin, and to Georgia Hospice.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday June 5, 2026, at Northview Cemetery.  Rev. David Thompson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dublin First Methodist Church.
