Alan Taylor Powell, known affectionately as “Bolie” to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2025, in his hometown of Dublin, Georgia. Born on October 16, 1946, in the same close-knit community, Alan's life was a testament to his love for his roots and being surrounded by the people who brought him joy and camaraderie.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Frances Fordham Powell; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Seaton; his sister-in-law, Sharon Seaton, and his brother-in-law, Dale Bridges. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Eugenia Seaton Powell, with whom he shared a life full of love and laughter. He is also survived by his brother, Judson Powell (Julie) of St. Simons Island, GA; brothers-in-law, Bob Seaton and William Seaton (Cynthia) of Cohutta, GA, and sister-in-law Cecilia Bridges of Cohutta, GA.
Alan's legacy is also cherished by his life-long friends, Brant New (Susan) of Dublin, Bob Brandes (Sandy) of Canton, GA, Charlie Fuller of Canton, David McKinnon (Cheryl) of Cornelia, GA, and Jack Heidler (Suzanne) of Dublin.
A proud graduate of Dublin High School, Alan was a member of the 1963 State Championship Football Team, an achievement that remained close to his heart throughout his life. His love for sports was not just a pastime but a passion that he pursued with vigor and enthusiasm. Alan's career as a banker was marked by dedication and integrity, and upon his retirement in 2014, he returned to Dublin, the community he so dearly loved.
Alan's involvement in bird dog field trials spanned over 30 years, where on horseback he not only competed but also judged and reported on events throughout the southeast. Alan's love for the outdoors extended to hunting birds, whitetail deer, and elk, activities that brought him closer to nature and the companionship of fellow enthusiasts.
An avid sports fan, Alan's support for his college and professional teams, especially the Georgia Bulldogs, was unwavering. His enthusiasm for football, baseball, basketball, and all equine sports was infectious, and he enjoyed sharing these moments with friends and family.
Alan was a devoted friend who cherished the simple pleasure of entertaining or just spending time with those he loved. He will be missed by all who were privileged to know and love him.
