Alfred Colquitt Lamb, Jr., age 91, passed away Wednesday morning, June 3, 2020, at Cypress Glen, a Methodist retirement community in Greenville, North Carolina.
Graveside services will be held at Northview Cemetery Thursday morning, June 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Bob Williams will officiate.
Mr. Lamb was born June 14, 1928 in Swainsboro, Georgia — the eldest child of Alfred Colquitt Lamb, Sr. and Minnie Mae Flanders Lamb. He graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1945 and joined the Navy in 1947, serving as a Seaman First Class Electronics Mate on Midway Island. Upon honorable discharge, Mr. Lamb attended the University of Georgia, where he majored in business and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. He received his BS in Business in 1953 and apprenticed with Price Waterhouse accounting firm in New York, New York, before accepting an accountant position in Dublin. In 1954, he married Mary Massey Prince, daughter of Clifford Haynes Prince and Lula King Prince, of Dublin.
Mr. Lamb served as the principal business manager for two Laurens County companies, Hogan-Scarboro and MinterNaval Stores. He devoted the latter part of his career to Walker Lumber Company, a hardwood sawmill he owned and operated in Albany, Georgia. He was an active participant in the Dublin community and a long-standing member of the First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Lamb was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy Lou Lamb, and his wife, Mary Massey Lamb. He is survived by his son, Alfred C. Lamb, III, of Greenville, North Carolina, and his brother, Frank Lamar Lamb, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
