Bearl Hampton Greenway, affectionately known as Bearl, was called home to the Lord on July 22, 2025, at the age of 85. Born in Elberton, Georgia, on May 28, 1940, to the late James and Ada Almira Greenway, he grew into a man of deep faith and enduring kindness. He leaves behind a legacy as rich as the soil he lovingly tended—one marked by service, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community
He is survived by his devoted wife, Doris Wynn Greenway of Rockledge, GA; his loving daughters, Charlane Conley (Ray) of Dexter, GA, and Becky Soles (Gregg) of Dublin, GA. He was a proud grandfather to Mindy Dollar (Jason) of Dublin, GA; Meagan Soles of Dawsonville, GA; Matison Blash (Jahmal) of Dudley, GA; Meredith Clegg (Mitchell) of Rentz, GA; Drew Kratky (Hannah) of Lakeland, FL; and Dylan Kratky of Saint Petersburg, FL. Bearl was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Molly Kate Dollar and Jenson Dollar of Dublin, GA; Kree Blash and Kai Blash of Dudley, GA; Cole Kratky, Sydney Kratky, and Logan Kratky of Lakeland, FL, and his sister Lattner Rigby of Thomaston, GA.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby, Larry, and Billy Greenway. His family remembers him with deep admiration and heartfelt gratitude for the legacy of love, strength, and generosity he leaves behind.
His career spanned over three decades with JP Stevens and Forstmann Textile Industries, where he excelled as a skilled color matcher. Bearl's exceptional attention to detail and mastery of the dyeing process were vital to the industry, ensuring the highest quality in fabric coloration. His work ethic and dedication were unparalleled, setting a standard for many who followed in his professional footsteps.
His sense of duty extended beyond his profession into fervent community service. As a fearless member of the Minter Volunteer Fire Department, he exemplified bravery and commitment, safeguarding his neighbors and their homes. His contributions to fire prevention and his response in times of crisis solidified his role as a pillar of the community.
In addition, Bearl's guiding hand was always present in Boy Scout Troop #68, where he mentored young men, nurturing their growth in character and leadership as a Scoutmaster Assistant for 15 years. His influence helped shape the future of many, instilling values that would carry them through life's challenges. His service to Tweed Church as a financial clerk for 15 years was a testament to his integrity and faith, managing resources with transparency and stewardship. A devoted member of his church, Bearl also shared his love for music by singing in the choir and performing specials, lifting spirits and worshiping through song with heartfelt sincerity.
An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the embrace of nature, whether it was fishing in his catfish pond, hunting, or tending to his farm. He generously shared the fruits of his labor, providing not just sustenance but an embodiment of his generous spirit. His love for family shone brightest as he supported his grandchildren in their various pursuits, his presence a beacon of pride and encouragement.
His passion for NASCAR racing and his sharp sense of style were among his unique characteristics—a charming blend of excitement and elegance that defined him. In every aspect of life, his devotion, warmth, and generosity were the hallmarks of a man who lived his faith in action, touching lives and leaving an indelible mark on all he encountered.
We honor Bearl Hampton Greenway, a man whose love knew no bounds, whose hands worked to create beauty, and whose heart was a haven of generosity.
